The Dolphin Field Course is an amazing opportunity for those who wish to learn more about marine life, marine mammal science. It includes a large number of hours onboard boats and a smaller number of hours during land research and lecture times. The course is conducted by a qualified marine biologist.

The Dolphin Field Course is a 1 or 2 week programme that introduces the participants to the ‘Dolphins of Malta Research Project’ currently being undertaken at the University of Malta. This course is suitable for participants who are interested in persuing a marine mammal science career or simply want to learn interesting facts about marine wildlife. No previous experience is necessary, however we encourage participants to have a true interest in the marine world and are willing to learn and contribute to the research programme.

The course is carried out both on land and on sea. Boat surveys are held on board a 45ft sailing boat, and participants will have the opportunity to go on sea for research, and to see dolphins and other marine animals, such as turles and birds, in their natural environment.

Main outcomes of the course:

  • Field experience researching and data collecting
  • Basic knowledge of research techniques and equipment
  • A deep understanding of the ecology of marine mammals in the Mediterranean
  • An insight into the importance of education, public awareness and the role of eco-tourism to promote positive change and to create new job opportunities in the conservation field
  • Learning to work as part of a team in a multicultural environment
