Description
Olive wood has been in use since the Middle ages in arts and decorative furniture by artisans making pulpits and statues in churches, columns, and decorations in private villas, toys, plates, cutlery, trays, and more other stuff. Its decorative way uses because of the beautiful pattern of the inner lines. It has good consistency when carving and characteristic odor.
My uncle Salvatore, who has always been a great lover of this wood, creates minimal keychains using olive tree branches from the annual tree pruning. Firstly he cut out the keyring’s shape with the reciprocating saw, which he then models with sandpaper. Then he affixes a small hole to insert a cotton thread that weaves and knots and a stainless steel ring. Finally, he buffers the keyring with oil which reduces water absorption.
Whoever holds an olive wooden craft has love and respect for nature.
If this person chooses to buy an artisan craft, is aware of and respects the work and talent of that man or woman who made it.
